Check DNS Status

Recently changed your DNS records, switched hosts, or launched a new website? Check DNS Status instantly with our free DNS Checker. Verify your domain’s DNS records across multiple global servers and ensure full propagation worldwide in just a few clicks.

DNS Propagation Checker - Global DNS Lookup Tool

Check your DNS propagation worldwide with the free DNS Checker Tool. Monitor how your DNS changes are reflected across 100+ global DNS servers. Unlike text-based tools, our tool visually displays DNS propagation on a world map, making it easier to detect regional issues and manage your DNS records effectively.

How to Use the DNS Checker Tool

1. Enter the Domain or Hostname

Start by entering the domain name you want to check. This is the first step to monitor global DNS propagation.

2. Select the DNS Record Type

Choose the DNS record type you want to check from the drop-down menu:

  • A Record – Displays the IPv4 address of your hostname.
  • AAAA Record – Displays the IPv6 address.
  • CNAME Record – Points subdomains to the main domain. Use CNAME Lookup for detailed info.
  • MX Record – Contains mail server info and routing priorities.
  • NS Record – Lists the authoritative nameservers for your domain.
  • PTR Record – Maps IP addresses to domain names for reverse lookup.
  • SRV Record – Provides location and configuration of services like VoIP or email.
  • SOA Record – Contains zone authority info and DNS zone configuration.
  • TXT Record – Used for SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and other verifications.
  • CAA Record – Indicates which certificate authorities can issue SSL certificates for your domain.
  • DS Record – Maintains trust between parent and child DNS zones.
  • DNSKEY Record – Holds public keys like Zone Signing Key (ZSK) and Key Signing Key (KSK).

2. Run Quick DNS Propagation

After entering the domain and selecting the record type:

  • Click Search in our DNS Checker Tool to see global propagation results.
  • ✔️ Green tick = DNS record has been propagated.
  • ❌ Red cross = DNS record has not yet propagated or does not match the expected value.

Adding Custom DNS Servers

Easily add your own DNS server:

  • DNS Name (required)
  • DNS IP (required)
  • DNS Provider
  • Map Latitude & Longitude

Custom servers can also be added to the public DNS list for global monitoring using the DNS Checker Tool.

Setting Expected IP Address Values

If your IP has recently changed, use smart controls to define expected values:

  • Exact match
  • Contains numbers
  • Regular expression

This ensures accurate monitoring of propagation status.

Advanced DNS Propagation Checks

Use the DNS Lists section in the DNS Checker Tool to check propagation status by:

  • IP Address
  • Continent
  • Country

Select a region or IP type, enter the hostname, and validate its DNS propagation worldwide.

DNS Basics

What is DNS?

Domain Name System (DNS) maps human-readable domain names to IP addresses, like the internet's phone book.

How DNS Resolution Works

DNS resolution converts a domain name into its server IP address. Steps:

  1. Recursive DNS Server (Resolver) – Receives queries from clients.
  2. Root DNS Servers – Provide the TLD servers list.
  3. TLD Name Servers – Return authoritative DNS servers for domains.
  4. Authoritative DNS Servers – Hold actual DNS records and respond with IP addresses.

Example: DNS Process

Visiting https://xyz.com:

  1. Browser queries recursive resolver (usually ISP-provided).
  2. Resolver checks cache; if not found, queries root servers.
  3. Root servers refer to TLD servers.
  4. TLD servers point to authoritative servers.
  5. Authoritative servers return DNS records.
  6. Resolver caches and provides an IP to the browser.

Key Features of DNS Checker:

Our DNS Checker tool comes with a bunch of useful features. Here are their details:

Efficient DNS Record Lookup:

You can check all major DNS records of any domain with this tool. Some of the main DNS record types that you can check with this tool include:

  • A, AAAA
  • CNAME
  • MX
  • NS
  • TXT, SPF, DKIM
  • SOA
  • SRV
  • CAA
  • PTR
  • DNSSEC records (DNSKEY, DS)
  • Global DNS Propagation Check

This tool helps you see how your DNS changes are spreading across the internet. You can check if updates to your A record, MX record, nameservers, or other settings are visible in different regions around the world. It makes it easy to confirm whether your new DNS settings are live and working everywhere.

Multi-Resolver Testing:

You can check how your domain appears on different DNS servers with this tool. You can compare results from Google DNS, Cloudflare, OpenDNS, and others to see if every resolver is showing the same updated information or if some are still using old data.

Real-Time DNS Status:

You can get fresh and accurate DNS results every time you run a check. The tool shows live data, so you do not have to worry about old or cached information. This helps you see the current state of your domain and confirm that your DNS updates are working as expected.

DNS Troubleshooting Support:

With DNS Checker, you can quickly find common DNS problems like wrong IP addresses, misconfigured mail records, or missing nameservers. The tool also helps spot incorrect CNAME links, broken DNSSEC records, and issues in TXT or SPF settings. It makes fixing domain errors faster and keeps your website and email running smoothly.

Free and easy to use:

The DNS Checker Tool is completely free and works in any browser. No downloads, installations, or accounts are needed. It provides fast results with a simple interface, making it easy for anyone to check and monitor DNS records.

Understanding DNS Propagation

  • DNS Propagation – Time taken for DNS changes to update globally (up to 48 hours).
  • Why it takes time – Different ISPs cache DNS data differently.
  • DNS Not Propagating? – Flush DNS cache or check DNS health using the DNS Checker Tool.
  • Non-existent Domain – Returns NXDomain error.

DNS Ports and Failures

  • UDP 53 – Standard queries
  • TCP 53 – Zone transfers or large packets
  • DNS Failure – Server cannot resolve domain to IP
